Enjoy a day of fun, fitness, and health! Special Olympics BC invites all individuals with intellectual disabilities to attend our Healthy Athletes Screening Day in Coquitlam!
SOBC Healthy Athletes Screening Days are free and fun events featuring friendly health screenings in a supportive and welcoming environment, designed to help identify issues and get referrals to necessary treatments.
This event will include three kinds of Healthy Athletes screenings:
- Healthy Hearing – led by volunteer professionals, Healthy Hearing provides tests for cerumen (ear wax) and otoacoustic emissions (overall hearing).
- Opening Eyes – this will focus on eye health education and tests of visual sharpness and health. To streamline the experience for all participants, the Opening Eyes screenings at this event will not have full eye exam equipment on site. If you would like to receive free prescription glasses from this event, please bring a prescription from your optometrist from within the last two years. If you do not have a recent prescription, please visit a local optometrist before coming to Healthy Athletes. Click here to find an optometrist
- Special Smiles – provides comprehensive oral health care information to participating Special Olympics athletes, including free dental screenings and instructions on correct brushing and flossing techniques.
