Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to fill out these forms this year, even if my Local isn't offering all the programs it usually does?

All new and returning Special Olympics BC athletes and volunteers are asked to complete the 2020-21 registration form and waiver above, in order to participate in any upcoming SOBC opportunities. By registering, you're helping your Local plan which sports and programs to offer. You'll get access to virtual programs and resources. And you're helping us keep you in the loop about upcoming opportunities.

Even if you can’t participate in all the sports you usually would, there will be lots of other opportunities available while we all work on safely reopening in-person programs. There will be virtual sport training programs with athlete and coach interactions, virtual Athlete Leadership programs, health opportunities, and more. Registering will give you access to all of this, and help us keep you up to date on plans.

What should I sign up for?

We encourage you to sign up for all the sports you usually would. However, please know that filling out these forms does not automatically mean you’ll participate in everything you signed up for. Locals might not be able to offer all sports due to the unique circumstances of this season.

During the current sport levels, athletes and coaches can only participate in one sport at a time, in order to be as safe as possible. And numbers in all programs will be small at first, because the space requirements are going to be different in order to ensure physical distancing is possible, and because many facilities will have their own considerations.

What forms are to be required for athletes and coaches to be registered for the 2020-21 year?

Please see above for the registration form and waiver. Both of these forms are different from previous years.

The new waiver is being used by Special Olympics programs all across Canada. It includes a media opt-out section. You only need to fill out the media opt-out box if you don't want Special Olympics to use your image in promotions (such as ads and posters) and on social media. However, even if you don't opt out of media, you still need to submit this page of the waiver form for legal reasons. Thank you for your patience and efforts!

What do I do with my forms once I've completed them?

Please submit your documents to your local community or to your Region's Community Development Coordinator.

Do I have to register in order to be able to participate in virtual programs?
