Special Olympics PEI has received a very generous donation from PEI Mutual Insurance Company. A long-time supporter, PEI Mutual presented Special Olympics PEI with a donation for $20,000 earlier this week. Having donated a collective total of $330,000 over the last 29 years, PEI Mutual is a true champion of the Special Olympics movement here in PEI.
The last 14 months have been challenging for many, including our athletes. With Special Olympics in-person programs temporarily paused, our athletes were left without a key source of physical activity and social connection each week. Thanks to the steadfast support from our partners, including PEI Mutual, we were able to quickly pivot, and continue to offer high quality, virtual, programs to our athletes. This continued support has been essential in allowing us to continue enriching the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability through sport.
Over the years, and especially throughout the pandemic, the support PEI Mutual has shown for Special Olympics has far outreached the financial contributions. The engagement with, and enthusiasm for, our athletes, programs, and initiatives has driven our work forward.
