B.C.’s New Car Dealers have been supporting Special Olympics BC’s life-changing programs for 35 years.

The New Car Dealers Association of BC and Dealers throughout the province have generously supported Special Olympics BC since the earliest years of our organization. Today, they raise vital funds and awareness through important province-wide initiatives such as the highly successful New Car Dealers Foundation / Special Olympics BC Auction. And many individual Dealers find ways to support empowering SOBC programs in their communities.

Peace County Toyota Business Manager Steve Oliver volunteers with SOBC – Dawson Creek as a coach and Local Committee member. He is also a valued Special Olympics Team BC 2020 Training Squad mission staff volunteer, supporting athletes as they prepare to compete at the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Games in Thunder Bay.

Oliver has coached at many levels and dealt with a lot of different athletes. He says Special Olympics athletes “have so much more fun and so much more appreciation than what I’ve seen. It really hooked me to get as involved as I can. If we’re not giving them the opportunity [to participate], we’re doing them a big disservice.”

The New Car Dealers Foundation / Special Olympics BC Auction began in 1987 as the Casino Auction in support of SOBC, chaired by Sherrold Haddad. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteer organizing committee and New Car Dealers staff, the auction has grown into a multi-day event that includes hundreds of items and raises significant funds for the empowering work of the New Car Dealers Foundation and Special Olympics BC.

This year’s auction raised more than $178,000, and included a wide range of sought-after items in automotive, business, food, wine, lifestyle, media, sport, and travel. Through more than three decades, this important event has raised an incredible total of nearly $5.1 million.

The New Car Dealers Association of BC also provides SOBC with valuable opportunities to raise funds and awareness at industry events such as the Vancouver International Auto Show.

Heartfelt thanks to the New Car Dealers Association of BC and Dealers throughout the province for making a difference with their support of Special Olympics! They have played an instrumental role in the growth of SOBC, changing the lives of thousands of athletes and, in turn, the lives of everyone they touch.
