The theme of the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games is "Pure Heart." Meet a few of the many members of the Special Olympics Team BC 2020 Training Squad who are demonstrating pure heart and inspiring determination in their training for the National Games!

Provincial team Sport Summit or your honeymoon? Tough call! Special Olympics Team BC 2020 Training Squad alpine skier Roxana Golbeck has been training hard all summer. This fall, unfortunately an unavoidable conflict arose between the alpine skiing Team BC Sport Summit and Golbeck’s honeymoon. So the dedicated Special Olympics BC – Kimberley/Cranbrook athlete chose to reschedule her honeymoon so she could participate in the Sport Summit. She wanted the opportunity to connect with her teammates and gear up together for the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games

Golbeck has been a Special Olympics athlete since 2009, and she loves the community and her “amazing” coaches. “I love Special O!” she says. She earned her spot on the Special Olympics Team BC 2020 Training Squad after winning two gold medals at the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games in Greater Vernon.

This is the second time Golbeck has qualified to compete in the Special Olympics Canada Games – her first National Games appearance came in 2016, also for alpine skiing. She has also competed in Provincial Games for softball and swimming.
