SOBC staff update June 2021

After nearly two years of influential work on Special Olympics BC health initiatives, Marlow de Paul is leaving her staff role to take on new opportunities. Marlow achieved great things for health, and was vital throughout this unique pandemic year. Her outstanding insights, commitment, vision, and positive spirit will be much missed. We are fortunate that Marlow has already agreed to continue volunteering with Special Olympics Healthy Athletes events!

And we’re fortunate to have landed Steph Stresing as our new Sport Coordinator who will lead the health portfolio. Steph is a recent graduate of UBC’s kinesiology program with a passion for health, wellness, and public policy research for marginalized communities. She is also a former track and field athlete and Special Olympics swimming volunteer. She brings a lot of health expertise and enthusiasm, and she is extremely excited to join the Special Olympics BC staff team.

Steph started with SOBC on June 1. Marlow’s last day is June 11.

SOBC Office Administrator Jocelyn Kerr will be leaving us this summer to realize one of her dreams, as she is heading to the Queen’s University School of Medicine this fall. Jocelyn has advanced our movement in many ways in her year on the administration team, in addition to her time working on the SOBC Youth Engagement Project and as a volunteer. We will miss her uncanny ability to be incredibly detail-oriented and thorough while also incredibly positive and caring.

We are now hiring an Office Administrator. Please click here for the posting.

SOBC is also excited to be welcoming Garrett Chance to the Sport and Programs team in the new role of Youth Engagement Coordinator. Garrett holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from UBC and a Certificate in Project Management from BCIT. He brings great experience from his volunteering with the SOBC – Surrey powerlifting program and as a physical education teacher at Vancouver Technical Secondary School. Garrett will be advancing recruitment of youth volunteers, inclusion projects in schools, and more. Garrett's first day will be June 14.
