Special Olympics BC – Kitimat coach Glen Robinson is passionate about providing athletes with opportunities to participate in the sports they love.

The Head Coach of SOBC – Kitimat’s curling and soccer programs, Robinson says helping athletes develop skills and confidence is a very rewarding experience. Robinson says Special Olympics is important because it shows people what individuals with intellectual disabilities can do. He hopes more people come out to SOBC competitions so they can see the athletes’ amazing levels of skill and sportsmanship.

Robinson encourages potential athletes to check out SOBC – Kitimat’s Facebook page to learn more about the Local’s inspiring sports programs.

When did you start with Special Olympics, and how did you get involved?

I got involved in 2014 because my son Zack joined SOBC sports.

What has been your most memorable Special Olympics experience?

When our three SOBC – Kitimat athletes combined with the SOBC – Terrace soccer team to go to the 2017 SOBC Summer Games in Kamloops. I enjoy watching the athletes interacting with their teammates.

What is your favourite thing about being involved with SOBC?

Providing opportunities for the athletes in a variety of sports that they can choose from. The final reward is seeing how talented the athletes are in sports and watching them build their confidence to be successful and have fun, not only in sports, but in the real world with their hobbies and work. The athletes also make lasting friendships along the way.

What would you like others to know about SOBC – Kitimat?

That our programs are available and we encourage participation in our different sports. Looking for more information? Check out our SOBC – Kitimat Facebook page.
