SUBJECT: Canada Games Selection 2022 - Athletics

The 2022 Canada Summer Games will be held in Niagara, Ontario from August 6th – 21st, 2022. Athletics will take place during week two (Aug 14th – 21st).

There are four positions reserved exclusively for Special Olympics NL athletes.

  • 2 Female         
  • 2 Male

Special Olympics Athlete Eligibility Criteria

  • Athlete must be under 32 years of age as of December 31st, 2022 (born in 1991 or later).
  • Athletes participating in the Special Olympics events must be registered with and be members in good standing of Special Olympics Canada and have qualified at events sanctioned by Special Olympics Canada.
  • Athletes may enter in the following track events only;
    • 100m
    • 200m
  • The NLAA, Canada Games Selection Trials being held at Pearlgate Track & Field in Mt. Pearl Friday, July 8th – Sunday, July 10th, 2022 will be used to identify the possible athletes who may be given the opportunity to compete with Team NL at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

If a Special Olympics athlete, who meets all the eligibility criteria above would like an opportunity to attend the Canada Games Selection Trials and compete for a position please contact Rosie Ryan directly for registration information.

The Canada Games Selection Trials is the only qualifying event SONL athletes can take part in to compete for an opportunity to be a part of Team NL at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
