When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I started practicing with Special Olympics when I was six, then competing when I was eight.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

I went to Nationals in 2016.

What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

I finished fifth. I was nervous when I skated and fell and I never fall in practice. I am prepared now and I will not fall!

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

It means a lot. I was so happy when I found out I am on Team BC. I go to my practices on the bus three times a week. I think I will do well in 2020. I am going to try my best!

What is your goal for these National Games?

I want to win. I want people in B.C. to be proud of me. I want to go to World Games and win there too. I skate three times a week, and if I could, I would skate five times a week.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

I think B.C. is the best place in Canada. We have very great coaches and I want to give my best performance.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

I love figure skating because my grandmother and grandfather were figure skaters. My grandfather won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in 1960. My sister rides horses and my brother played hockey; my other brother is in Special Olympics for track and field. I am the only one that does figure skating.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

I like competing. I want to do better than last Nationals. I know I can because I am not nervous this time.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

You can make a lot of friends at Special Olympics. You will be important, people cheer for you and watch you compete.

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

I only do figure skating. I think I might like to play golf because my dad likes golf.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I am 20 years old now and I just want to do my best at the National Games. I hope my mom and sister can come watch me because I don't want to be too nervous. I think my grandfather is proud that I am doing figure skating. We have some of his trophies and medals at our house.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Dedicated.
