We're Hiring a Games Coordinator

Job Title: Games Coordinator                Location: Grand Falls-Windsor Office

Purpose: The Games Coordinator with the support of the provincial staff and Games Organizing Committee (GOC) will assist in the development and implementation of all aspects of the Special Olympics NL Winter Games taking place in Grand Falls-Windsor, March 9-12, 2023. These Games are a multi-sport competition welcoming over 400 Special Olympics athletes, coaches, and mission staff from across NL.

Start Date: Nov 28, 2022    End Date: Mar 20, 2023

Term: 30 hrs./week (Nov – Dec) & 35 hrs./week (Jan-Mar) for a total contract of 16 weeks.

Rate of Pay: $17.00/hr. + travel/meal compensation as approved by provincial staff as needed.

Duties include:

  • Assist in developing an event planner, including timelines and schedules.
  • Serve as ex-officio on all Games subcommittees, attending meetings as required.
  • Maintain a volunteer database and assist with recruitment, orientation, and training.
  • Provide support to subcommittees as required. (Preparing and distributing meeting materials, arranging meeting date/time/location, contacting attendees, etc.)
  • Work as both part of a team and independently, managing multiple tasks.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the GOC or provincial staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education or equivalent work experience in sport, recreation, or volunteer/event management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of M365, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using social media platforms, Zoom and graphic creation software.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work from home and travel on occasion (have access to own vehicle)
  • Experience working/volunteering with individuals with an intellectual disability.

Requirements:

  • Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Driver’s license and access to own vehicle.
