Summary: Special Olympics NL is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability through sport. We are seeking two enthusiastic, creative, and energetic individuals who would work in both a team environment and independently, joining our provincial staff in St. John's, NL.

Job Title: Youth and School Program Developer

Primary Areas of Responsibility:         

Youth and School Program Developer is responsible for the development of Active Start, FUNdamentals, and Special Olympics Unified Sports School programs.

Responsibilities:

YOUTH PROGRAMMING:

  • Develop and implement Special Olympics Unified Sport and Young Athlete Programs
  • Develop resources, tools, and tactics to support youth program delivery
  • Develop strategies for athlete and volunteer recruitment specific to youth programs.
  • Work with community clubs to support youth programming
  • Work closely with SONL staff on youth program development deliverables and complete reporting documents
  • Work with SONL to identify and build partnerships with organizations and associations that can assist and support youth growth and development

ADMINISTRATION:

  • First point of contact with potential volunteers
  • Athlete Leadership Program
  • Healthy Athletes Program
  • Manage Game Changers Partnership
  • Provide support to Special Olympics Games and Competitions.
  • Provide support to SONL fundraising events
  • Administer Provincial Awards Program

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of multiple sports
  • Able to relate well and work effectively with the public
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful background working with youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful background in working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of individuals with an intellectual disability
  • Experience with MS Office 365
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong writing skills, ability to write concisely
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Effective time management skills

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License and daily access to own a vehicle, ability to travel.
  • Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.

HOURS OF WORK:

This a full-time position permanent position - 35 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend work will be required from time to time.

This position requires extensive cross-province travel.

The first six months of employment are considered a probation period for all employees.

Job Title: Public Image/Events Coordinator

Primary Areas of Responsibility:         

Public Image/Events Coordinator is responsible for administration, communications and marketing of all SONL events. Reporting to the Executive Director provides administrative support to both the Executive Director and Program Director.

Responsibilities:

FUNDRAISING/ADMINISTRATION:

  • Provide administrative support to SONL and Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising events
  • Provide administrative support to Special Olympics Games and Competitions.
  • Manage and maintain multiple databases (registration, training and equipment)
  • Assist Local Clubs with registration
  • Create and maintain fundraising sites
  • Issuing of charitable tax receipts
  • Regional Leadership Conference administration
  • Ensure adherence to the brand standards for Special Olympics
  • SONL Thrift Store support

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Responsible for the managing SONL social media channels and website
  • Collaborate with Special Olympics Canada Marketing and Communications Committee
  • Create SONL promotional materials, including Annual Report
  • Communication Liaison for major events

Qualifications:

  • Experience with desktop publishing platforms
  • Strong writing skills, ability to write concisely
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful background in working with volunteers
