    SOBC athletes primed for 2018 BC Summer Games
    SOBC - Surrey athlete Olivia Neuman will compete at the BC Summer Games.

    Twenty-five Special Olympics BC athletes and nine coaches are set to take part in athletics and swimming at the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games being held July 19 to 22 in the Cowichan Valley.

    Athletics competitions run Friday and Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cowichan Sports Complex.

    SOBC athletics competition starts at 10 a.m. on Friday with the long jump. The 100-metre dash goes at 1:25 p.m., followed by the 400-metre at 2:40 p.m. On Saturday, competition gets underway at 10 a.m. with shot put. The 800-metre kicks off at 11:50 a.m., followed by the 200-metre at 1:55 p.m. SOBC athletics competition wraps up with the 4 x 100-metre relay at 3:30 p.m. Medal ceremonies for athletics start each day at noon and again at 4 p.m.

    In the pool, swimming competition gets underway at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre each day starting at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 3:45 p.m., followed by medal ceremonies.

    The BC Games provide a competitive multi-sport environment that supports the development of athletes, coaches, and officials as they move on to higher levels of competition. More than 3,733 participants, including 2,808 athletes, 543 coaches, and 382 officials will be in the Cowichan Valley for the 31st edition of the Summer Games. The BC Games are celebrating their 40th anniversary.
