Second day of competition brings impressive scores and wonderful memories for Team BC

2018 Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships

It was another great day at the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships for Team BC 5- and 10-pin bowlers, with athletes hitting their stride on the lanes and making lasting memories of their East Coast experience.

Bowlers continue to be in great form with many achieving game scores to be proud of, as well as a bronze medal in the 10-pin doubles tournament!

In addition to having a great time in the competition, athletes have been treated to a wonderful welcome from their host community in Charlottetown, who are providing free transit access to all Special Olympics athletes and coaches so they can explore the city between games.

“The hospitality has been phenomenal,” said Quesnel Alley Cats 5-pin coach Ellen Martz. “Everyone is just so welcoming.”

Bowlers have also been connecting with athletes from across the country, with many exchanging lapel pins representing their home communities to commemorate their experience and the friendships made.

Match play competition continued at Murphy’s Community Centre in Charlottetown today, where Team BC athletes faced off against bowlers from across Canada. Many are really getting into their games, like SOBC – Quesnel athlete Eldon Carter (pictured at right) who bowled over 200 in one of his matches! Coach Ellen Martz said that the athletes bowled very well, and there were “a lot of fantastic strikes and spares today.”

Match play competition continues tomorrow, with the team medal round on Saturday. Final results will be posted after the medal presentations. You can find daily individual and team scores here.

10-pin bowling

Ten-pin bowlers had a “really good day,” said SOBC – Surrey coach Bryan LeBlanc. Today’s doubles competition saw a bronze medal for the duo of Lucia Busto and Amanda Littlejohn and great efforts from the rest of the 10-pin team, many of whom scored well above their averages.

The team is focused and ready for the singles event tomorrow, which will be their final competition of the Bowling Championships.
