A Health Messenger is a Special Olympics athlete who has been trained to serve as a health and wellness leader, educator, advocate, and role model within their community and beyond. The goal of Health Messenger training is to provide athletes with the technical skillset and support to enhance their ability to be health advocates and share their unique perspective with those around them.
The Health Messenger training will cover 7 topics: the role of a Health Messenger, health disparities of people with intellectual disabilities, physical activity, nutrition, emotional health, communications, and advocacy.
