Meet Fundraising Champion Zoe Caller
When Zoe Caller set out to run all 42.2 kilometres of the BMO Vancouver Marathon, she was chasing more than a personal goal – she was running with an incredible purpose. Caller made her kilometres count by raising funds for Special Olympics BC in support of her cousin, a proud Special Olympics BC athlete.
Her cousin was born with a rare genetic disorder called Williams Syndrome that affects areas of his development. He participates in Special Olympics BC’s year-round sport programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
“Despite his challenges, [he] has a spirit that radiates stronger than anyone I’ve ever known. He is first to make anyone’s day brighter with his friendly personality, infectious laugh, or by offering a heartfelt compliment,” Caller says.
Caller says her cousin loves hockey, baseball, playing bass guitar, animals, and landscaping. “Most importantly, he has an unwavering love for his family. His constant support, and how he always checks in to see how I’m doing has meant the world to me over the years. He has been the best cousin anyone could ever ask for.”
Special Olympics BC has had a major impact on her cousin’s life.
“Knowing that Special Olympics provides so much good to all those involved, I was very pleased to be able to raise funds for such a great organization. Running with that purpose made the whole experience extra amazing,” Caller says.
Caller proudly finished her marathon after months of hard work. "It was such a rewarding feeling to cross the finish line and check off that goal for myself after months of training... The atmosphere, crowds, and views of Vancouver was an unforgettable thing to witness and an experience like no other.”
“Special Olympics BC is dedicated to providing a community of acceptance, understanding, and inclusion among those with intellectual disabilities. Through sports, this organization changes lives by offering a sense of belonging, growth, empowerment and lasting joy to all those involved,” she says.
Runners can support Special Olympics BC in the Vancouver Half Marathon & 5k on June 22, 2025, or at the Brita Night Run on September 12, 2025.
