Special Olympics Alberta Official Announcement - April 12, 2022

As of April 1, 2022 masking is no longer a requirement for Special Olympics Alberta Programs.

Masking must still be worn on public transportation to and from programs, as per Alberta Health Services, but it will be an individual's choice to wear a mask when at the program or while participating.

AHS has 5 recommendations to protect yourself and others against the spread COVID-19. SOA supports these recommendations and expects that all participants will respect the decisions of others.

  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Get immunized
  • Keep your distance (2m / 6ft)
  • Stay home when feeling unwell

Please note that all participants are expected to follow regulations that are more stringent at a local level. That means, if a municipality or facility has stronger requirements in place, we expect our participants to follow their rules.

An updated COVID19 Protocol Sheet and Return to Play resources are available on our website: https://www.specialolympics.ca/alberta/return-to-play

As always, we thank you for your patience as we support our athletes in the next steps. We appreciate there are many perspectives on all of this and we are doing our very best to work within the guidelines and direction of the Province while maintaining a high level of health and safety for everyone.
