During her remarkable life, Queen Elizabeth II held true to the vow she made on her 21st birthday:
“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” – HRH Queen Elizabeth II, age 21.
We now know that vow extended until her passing, just a few weeks ago on September 8th, 2022.
We are honored to announce that SOA has been selected as a partner for the Queen Elizabeths II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta). This award was created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s Accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. To honour this historic event, the Medal program recognizes outstanding service from Albertans who, like the Queen, have dedicated themselves to family, community and country.
We are seeking nominations for the Medal program! We are looking to honour those in our movement who have significantly contributed to the Special Olympics movement in Alberta and we need you help to do this!
Please take a moment to review the Nomination Information Package (attached) and consider submitting a nomination for someone you know is deserving of this Medal.
Nominations will be accepted between Friday, September 23, 2022 to Monday, October 17th, 2022. Nominations MUST be received by 4:00pm on Monday, October 17th, 2022. More information on who to send them to and what information is required is in the Nomination Information Package.
Medals will be presented in a ceremony that will be held in late November at a location to be determined in Edmonton, AB. Medals will be presented in a dignified manner that provides visibility to recipients and honours their achievements.
