2016 Holiday Card Designer, Athlete: Jenny Murray

The holidays is a special time of year where our athletes get to hang up their jerseys, get off the ice and come in from snow to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. Like everyone, they’re excited to eat treats, holiday meals and take part in the holiday cheer.

This year, Special Olympics Alberta asked our multi-talented athletes from all over the province to create holiday artwork that captures the spirit and joy of the holidays and Special Olympics.

Rising to the challenge and honing her artistic skills and athletic knowledge, Jenny Murray from Edmonton capture spirit perfectly with holiday wreath and inclusion of the Special Olympics globe.

Jenny Murray is a talent athlete who has been part of Special Olympics for the past four years. She is currently part of Team Alberta’s snowshoeing team and has been training hard to make sure she’s in tip-top shape for the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.

When she’s not training like a beast in the gym, she’s happy to stay at home with family, take photos or happy to help you at PetSmart where she’s been working for 11 years. During the summer, Jenny doesn’t slow down. She’s running up and down the soccer field playing with the Special Olympics soccer team in Edmonton and aspires to be like her favourite athlete,Christine Sinclair. Her fast feet and unstoppable spirit is evident on the field. It’s not uncommon to hear fans and her family members cheer Go Red Head Jenny (a delightful nickname her friends, coaches and teammates gave her)!

Special Olympics Alberta is proud to showcase our athletes’ talents and have Jenny’s artwork as our official Holiday Card. We hope you enjoy this special greeting in your mailbox this season.

We also sat down with the spirited red-head, to get her take on the holidays and what she’s looking forward to. Check out the video or read the transcript below:

Jenny: I really didn’t have one. I just basically grabbed a piece of paper and started drawing.

Jenny: Being with my family

Why do you like Special Olympics?
Jenny: I like Special Olympics because I get to exercise, I get to be with my friends and I achieve goals.
