SOC PGA Golf Coach Course

Completion of the SOC Competition Introduction Workshop is a prerequisite to attend the PGA of Canada Golf Training Workshop. If you have not taken the SOC Competition Introduction Workshop or are unsure if you have the prerequisite please reach out to Jen Schultz at jschultz@specialolympics.sk.ca or (306)780-9181. 

 

Things to note:

- We do ask that you arrive between 8:30-9:00am the morning of the course to register. 

- There will be no fee/cost to attend this course. 

- Please bring a notebook and writing instruments (workshop materials will be provided). 

- Please ensure that you bring lunch as there will be time to eat but lunch will not be provided/included.

 

Additional Information:

The entire duration of the course will take place in the Special Olympics Saskatchewan Boardroom. There will be no time throughout the course where you are on a golf course.

Special Olympics Golf Coach is a training program designed by the PGA of Canada in conjunction with Special Olympics Canada to address a specific need to develop, deliver, and implement coach education for Special Olympics coaches. The one-day workshop is designed specifically for Special Olympics volunteers interested in gaining the skills and confidence to run their own golf programs. 

 

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate and assist the athlete to perform proper golf warm up procedures.
  • Demonstrate and help the athlete to perform the basic skills in putting, chipping, pitching, iron and wood full swings 
  • Provide, plan and support practice time for the Special Olympics athlete
  • Support and help athletes learn competition preparation skills, if the athlete is participating in competitions.
  • Coach on basic rules, etiquette and sportsmanship appropriate to the game of golf.
