Special Olympics Canada statement regarding Special Olympics World Games Sweden 2021

Special Olympics International (SOI) has made the decision to remove the sport of floor hockey from the Special Olympics World Winter Games, Sweden 2021.

According to SOI, the sport has been removed due to capacity issues within the host country. In the memo from SOI, it's clear that floor hockey is not being removed from future World Games sports programming.

While this decision is disappointing, Special Olympics Canada is proud to have floor hockey included as part of its sport program for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2020. This will be a high-calibre competition involving the country's top floor hockey teams who have qualified at their Provincial/Territorial Championships.

We look forward to a great National Championship in floor hockey at our Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay February 25-29.
