Celebrate National Coaches Week with Special Olympics Canada!

Welcome to National Coaches Week, a time when we come together as a nation to recognize and celebrate the incredible coaches who make a world of difference in the lives of Special Olympics athletes across Canada.

Why Coaches Matter

At Special Olympics Canada, we understand that coaches are the heartbeat of our movement. They inspire, they empower and they ignite a passion for sport in our athletes that transcends boundaries and challenges. Coaches are the mentors who instill courage, confidence and character in our athletes, and they play a vital role in building a more inclusive and accepting society.

Special Olympics Coaches

Our coaches come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share a common goal. That goal; to create a world where everyone is included, valued and given the chance to reach their full potential through the power of sport. They work tirelessly to ensure that athletes of all abilities have the opportunity to thrive, on and off the field.

"Like everyone says, you really get more out of it than you put in. As a coach, the most rewarding thing is seeing an athlete achieve something they previously weren't able to do – to see the pride and sense of accomplishment on their faces when they do.”

COACHING RESOURCES

Volunteer Orientation

Calling all volunteers new, experienced or interested! Together, we're building a more inclusive and accepting Canada, one coach, one athlete, one community at a time.

Unified Sports

Become a Coach or Unified Partner! The Special Olympics Unified Sports program brings people with and without an intellectual or developmental disability together on the same team, promoting social inclusion while breaking down barriers and stereotypes. Through shared sports training and competition experiences in schools or communities, we have seen how Unified Sports breaks down barriers and becomes a catalyst for understanding, friendship and meaningful connections.

The 30-min complimentary course is an interactive eLearning module designed to empower coaches and Unified Partners with the skills and knowledge needed to lead a Unified Sports program in their community.
