Upcoming Events for August 2, 2018
•    Second day of competition takes place for all sports with the exception of rhythmic gymnastics and powerlifting, which concluded last night
•    Powerlifting medals will be handed out from 10-11:30am at 50th square
•    Day 2 of Healthy Athlete’s at the Schwartz Building is happening from 9am to 5pm
•    Medals for athletics and swimming will continue in 50th square
•    The friends and family event will take place at St. Andrews High School from 6-9pm
•    PLEASE BE ADVISED – There will be a scheduled break during afternoon competition between 1-4 pm for outside sports due to the heat

Highlights from August 1, 2018
•    Divisioning for all sports concluded and competition schedules were set for the remainder of the week
•    Powerlifting was a featured event of the evening, with competition going until 10pm at the Keating Centre. This is always a popular event and drew a boisterous crowd throughout the evening!

Interesting Facts
•    Alex, swimmer with Special Olympics Nova Scotia was on hand to assist in handing out the first medals of the Games alongside his fellow members of the Knights of Columbus. Alex is a member of the Knights of Columbus 0798, council 1105.
•    Kieran Corrigan from Special Olympics Team Alberta got a PB (personal best) in the 1,500 meter and won gold
•    Special Olympics New Brunswick athlete Gloria Leblanc (who is 69 years young!) was losing her bocce round 9-0 and came back to win it 10-9. She is now a local celebrity.
•    Special Olympics Team Manitoba has a winning basketball team. They won their first 3 divisioning Games in yesterday’s competition and are proudly mentored by a trio of sporty women. The team itself primarily consists of men (lone female Sarah is a force) yet the team’s coaches are proving Games newcomers can battle with the best of them. Head coach Breanne Breiton (coaching for 3 years) and assistant coaches Rowan Pandher (coaching for 2 years) and Katie Taber (coaching for 10 years) are all attending their first National Games together.
