SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD GAMES BERLIN 2023
The Special Olympics World Games are the world’s largest inclusive sports event. 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 190 countries competed together in 26 sports. The event took place June 17-25 and was supported by 20,000 volunteers and thousands of spectators and fans. It marked Special Olympics Team Canada’s triumphant return to the World Games, having last competed on the world stage in 2019.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEAM CANADA 2023:
89 athletes from across all 12 Provincial/Territorial Chapters represented Canada in 9 sports: athletics, men’s and women’s basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer and swimming. They were accompanied by 49 supporting team members, including coaches, mission staff and team leadership.
