Meet the Special Olympics Team BC 2024 snowshoeing team

The snowshoeing team of the Special Olympics BC 2024 Training Squad is looking to bring the energy and thrills to Calgary! Fifteen athletes make up this star-studded team, representing their Locals from Campbell River, Coquitlam, Kelowna, Prince George, Quesnel, Smithers, and Vernon!

The team is comprised of many athletes who have reached the national stage before, including SOBC – Campbell River’s Hazen Meade, who has been to eight previous National Games for snowshoeing and athletics! Meade and his fellow athlete veterans aim to be mentors to the snowshoeing athletes who have not been to National Games before.

“I am an expert at snowshoeing and I want to pass my skills to a younger generation,” Meade says.

Powered by five fantastic coaches from Campbell River, Kelowna, Smithers, and Vernon, the snowshoe team is looks to compete with pride and “leave the competition in [their] snow cloud!”

“My goals for these National Games are to make sure my athletes are as prepared as possible so they can perform their best, and to ensure that my athletes enjoy the National Games and the whole experience no matter the outcome of their races,” says SOBC – Kelowna coach David Wilkinson.
