Media Release - Special Olympics Alberta Announces Team Alberta 2020 Roster

EDMONTON, AB, May 30, 2019- Special Olympics Alberta is proud to announce the athletes, coaches and mission staff who will be part of the Team Alberta 2020.

Team Alberta will represent the province at the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay, ON from February 25 to 29.

“We are thrilled to announce such a strong team of confident individuals and teams who share in their dedication to sport and to being a member of Team Alberta,” says Jodi Flanagan, Team Alberta Chef de Mission.

“Every member earned their position on the team through their commitment and hard work. The next 10 months will focus on providing the best training and support to all Team Alberta members in their preparation for National Games.”

Based on the results from the 2019 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games in Calgary, 129 athletes, coaches and mission staff throughout the province were chosen to represent Alberta at the National Games.

“It is because of incredible volunteers that we are able to run Team Alberta – our Chef, mission staff, and coaches ensure that it is an amazing experience for our athletes,” says John Byrne, Special Olympics Alberta CEO. “We want to recognize them for their dedication and commitment to the team.”

Sport specific training for Team Alberta Training Camp will take place on Saturday June 1 and Special Olympics Alberta invites media to cover and set up interviews for Team Alberta athletes and coaches.

Team Alberta is represented by 96 athletes and 33 coaches and mission staff who will be competing at the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay, ON. from February 25 to 29. Athletes will compete in eight winter sports: 5-pin bowling, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, and speed skating.
