Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
The long-term athlete development (LTAD) model, developed by Special Olympics Canada, aims to promote fitness, physical literacy, and well-being to all athletes involved in Special Olympics, from age 2 to 102. It is a framework that recognizes that physical literacy is the foundation for being active, healthy, and engaged in physical activity for life as well as to achieving personal best performances at all levels of competition. The LTAD model follows research which shows that athletes will get active, stay active, and achieve personal bests if they do the right activities at the right time in their development.
