Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. Since the first Torch Run in Kansas in 1981, the event has grown to where there are now over 75,000 law enforcement officers carrying the Flame of Hope and representing over 95 programs in 30 countries around the world.

Fourteen trucks from across Saskatchewan took part in the 19th Law Enforcement Torch Run Truck Convoy on Saturday, October 3, in support of Special Olympics Saskatchewan.

The convoy brought together truck drivers, law enforcement members, athletes and volunteers to raise funds and awareness for sport opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities across Saskatchewan.

Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, and Knights of Columbus members gathered at SaskTel Centre to send the truckers off. Saskatoon Police Service and LETR members escorted the convoy out of Saskatoon, with Regina Police Service leading the escort into Regina.

Chad Hoskins of Maximum Training, this year’s top fundraiser, proudly led the convoy into Regina in recognition of his outstanding fundraising efforts. Jay’s Transportation Group showed strong support with ten trucks participating, alongside trucks from Gateway Trailer and another truck from Maximum Training. Hornoi Leasing LTD also generously provided a truck cab for the annual Truck Pull, helping make this community fundraising event possible.

The convoy concluded at the Turvey Center, where participants and supporters gathered for a barbecue lunch cooked by the Knights of Columbus and then the Truck Pull, continuing a day of community support and friendly competition.

Special Olympics Saskatchewan extends sincere thanks to Safeway at Northgate Mall for donating food, and to the Knights of Columbus for setting up breakfast in Saskatoon, providing the barbecue lunch in Regina and assisting with parking.

Thank you also to Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, the RCMP and all LETR members, truck drivers, sponsors, donors, athletes and volunteers who helped make the event possible.

For 19 years, the LETR Truck Convoy has demonstrated the generosity of Saskatchewan's trucking community and the commitment of law enforcement to Special Olympics athletes. Funds raised help support inclusive sport programs across the province.
