2023 SO World Games

SOS Athletes, Coaches & Volunteers experienced the true and transformative power of sport on the world stage in Berlin Germany from June 17th-25th, 2023!

SOS athletes, coaches, and volunteers were greeted by friends and family on the morning of Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 with cheers and hugs as they got off the plane from World Games in Berlin, Germany. With memories, stories, and experiences to last a lifetime, everyone was excited to be back in Saskatchewan and return home.

8 athletes and 3 coaches from Saskatchewan joined the rest of Team Canada to compete on the World Stage. The competition started with an unforgettable Opening Ceremonies on Sunday, June 17th, followed by over a week of intense competition in 27 different sports with athletes across the world. The World Games marked the long-awaited return to competition on the international stage since the last Special Olympics World Games in 2019.

Team Canada had 89 athletes and 49 supporting team members from all 12 Provincial/Territorial Chapters in 9 different sports: athletics, men's and women's basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, and swimming. For the full week, athletes, coaches, and team members came together, embracing the true power of sport. With a brilliant fireworks display in the Berlin summer sky and the extinguishing of the flame, the 2023 Special Olympics World Games came to a close on Sunday, June 25th.

We couldn't be prouder of the SOS athletes and coaches on Team Canada!
