Cavendish Agri Services sponsors World’s Largest Convoy event in support of Special Olympics PEI

LETR, Truck Convoy

The PEI Law Enforcement Torch Run is happy to announce Cavendish Agri Services has come on board as title sponsor for the second year in a row to support the World’s Largest Convoy event for Special Olympics PEI. This unique one-day fundraising event is a celebration of the trucking industry and their support of Special Olympics. Cavendish Agri, who specialize in providing comprehensive growing services to the agricultural sector in Atlantic Canada and Northeastern US, are looking forward to supporting this year’s event.

“Cavendish Agri Services is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2017 Truck Convoy for Special Olympics in PEI,” said David Muirhead, General Manager, Cavendish Agri. “We encourage other transportation companies to join us for this special event as we raise awareness, and much needed funds, for the Special Olympics here in PEI.”

The convoy will start at 10:00 a.m. on August 27th from Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) at 165 John Yeo Drive. The top fundraising truck will receive the honour of lead truck and will lead the convoy on a loop to South Rustico and back to DFO for a community celebration which will include a BBQ lunch, awards and prize draws. This year’s convoy will include local celebrity drivers and PEI Special Olympic athletes will be accompanying trucks as part of an athlete co-pilot program.

Thomas Annear of Morley Annear Trucking has helped coordinate the event for the past two years. "The trucking community loves getting together to show our support in our own way, and this is a great cause and a great way to show we care about our communities and the people in them."

Last year’s event drew a convoy of 27 trucks including drivers from off-Island. Monies raised support the 350 athletes on PEI who participate in Special Olympics programs across the Island. The PEI Law Enforcement Torch Run committee chair, Roger Steadman, is happy to see support coming from various partners.

“The LETR committee is pleased to have such strong community support behind the truck convoy event this year and wants to thank the Island trucking sector as well as Cavendish Agri Services for their sponsorship. Their support means more PEI Special Olympics participants can experience achievement, joy and unity through sport. And that is what this event is all about.”
