In 2008, Misty helped develop the Special Olympics Nakusp local program. Since then, she has coached skiing, curling, golf and Fit Family and Friends. Misty’s husband is the local basketball coach for the Cranbrook, B.C. program and her stepson is the Assistant Coach. This will be Misty’s first Special Olympics World Games, though she has coached teams to medal wins in other competitions. She says it is so special to see an athlete that you have coached on the podium. It is these moments that keep her coming back. It has been a lifelong dream to attend a World Games to represent her country and support the athletes. Misty’s best friend, Erin, is also attending and they plan to enjoy every moment and forge lifelong friendships. When not volunteering with Special Olympics, Misty loves spending time with her family and eight grandchildren. Misty will be caddie for athlete Erin Thom.
