All New LETR “Solar Plunge” Reaches Generous Donation Goal!

Juxtaposed by the dry August heat, the Icy Mountain Water Co. hosted Special Olympics Canada’s first ever “Solar Plunge”, a summer-time play on the traditional Law Enforcement Torch Run’s [LETR} Polar Plunge fundraiser.

Medicine Hat police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and courthouse security guards all bravely jumped into frigid waters while members of the neighbourhood drove by, honking their horns in support of Special Olympics Canada athletes. With a donation goal of $10,000, the Solar Plunge raked in a cool $10,095 in one sunny afternoon.

“I think it was the first Solar Plunge in all of Canada,” said Medicine Hat LETR member Dave Allen, “it was a great event, lots of people came!”

Dave—who ran the Solar Plunge—works as a drone operator with the Medicine Hat police department, using advanced technology to search the local wilderness for missing people and runaway criminals.” As his fellow volunteers packed up equipment used to host the successful fundraiser, Dave reminisced on what made the Solar Plunge shine.

“It was a great event, lots of people came, and lots of people might not be tempted to jump in the polar plunge—when it’s minus 20 outside—but were ready to take the leap today and have a lot of fun.”

Medicine Hat athlete ambassadors Linda and Chuck Mcdonald also attended the event and happily filmed themselves taking the plunge as a couple!
