LETR 'Solar Plunge' Reaches Generous Donation Goal!
Juxtaposed by the dry August heat, the Icy Mountain Water Co. hosted Special Olympics Canada’s 'Solar Plunge', a summer time play on the traditional Law Enforcement Torch Run’s (LETR) Polar Plunge fundraiser.
Medicine Hat police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and courthouse security guards all bravely jumped into frigid waters while members of the neighbourhood drove by, honking their horns in support of Special Olympics Canada athletes. With a donation goal of $10,000, the Solar Plunge raked in $10,095 in one sunny afternoon.

Said Medicine Hat LETR member Dave Allen after being asked why he joined the movement. Dave—who ran the Solar Plunge—works as a drone operator with the Medicine Hat police department, using advanced technology to search the local wilderness for missing people and runaway criminals. As his fellow volunteers packed up equipment used to host the successful fundraiser, Dave reminisced on what made the Solar Plunge shine.
It was a great event, lots of people came, and lots of people might not be tempted to jump in the polar plunge—when it’s minus 20 outside—but were ready to take the leap today and have a lot of fun.
