Special Olympics PEI, Team PEI 2024, Susie Smith

Suzanne Smith, or Susie as she is most commonly known, has been an athlete with Special Olympics PEI for many years, first getting involved to meet new people. Susie has participated and competed in many sports over the years, including formerly Figure Skating, Curling and Swimming, and now Bocce and 5-Pin Bowling.

Susie's favourite Special Olympics moment was being a member of Team Canada in the sport of Swimming and competing at the 2003 World Summer Games in Dublin, Ireland. Susie was the only Island athlete on Team Canada at those Games. 2003 was Susie's second time representing Canada, having also competed at the 1999 World Summer Games in North Carolina, USA, also in the sport of Swimming.

Susie was recognized as Special Olympics Canada's Female Athlete of the Year in 2000, becoming the first Island athlete to ever win the award. Susie's determination and dedication to overcoming barriers to success where highlighted as reasons for her winning the prestigious award.

Supporters of Special Olympics PEI are invited to follow Team PEI 2024, both in the lead-up to, and during the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024!
