Special Olympics PEI, Team PEI 2024, Ellen MacNearney

Ellen has been a Special Olympics athlete for 15 years. She began her journey with Special Olympics in Swimming, before later taking up Cross Country Ski as well. Ellen is one of two Cross Country Ski athletes who will be representing PEI at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 in Calgary, Alberta.

Ellen is a natural athlete, and a tremendous competitor. Ellen has competed at numerous Provincial, 5 National, and 1 World Games with Special Olympics. Additionally, Ellen has competed at Canada Games, in 2017 in Winnipeg, in the Special Olympics division in the sport of Swimming. Ellen has twice been recognized by Special Olympics Canada for her achievements, being named Female Athlete of the Year in 2013 and 2018. 

Off the fields of play, Ellen is a graduate of Special Olympics PEI's Athlete Leadership Academy as a Health Messenger. Ellen originally joined the Academy to become a Health Messenger to learn skills to help her throughout her life. Further to this, Ellen is currently the Athlete Representative on Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors.
