Meet Team PEI 2020 Athlete Shelby McInnis

Shelby McInnis, Team PEI 2020, Curling

Shelby McInnis, a member of Team PEI 2020's Curling Team, is well known in his hometown of Souris. Having lived in the small, eastern PEI town for his entire life, Shelby has enjoyed tremendous support from his hometown. Shelby has worked as the crossing guard at the local school for the past few years, a job that has only further endeared him to the community.  Shelby, in fact, was named PEI's first Crossing Guard of the Year by the PEI Home and School Federation in 2016. When describing the support the town of Souris has shown for Shelby, Shelby's mother, Lois, said that "the town of Souris has shown tremendous support for Shelby; people just love Shelby. He is well known in the community - there's only one Shelby!"

Shelby has been curling in the community league out of the Souris rink since the venue opened around 5 years ago. Shelby loves participating in the league, where he has made some great friends.  The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2020 in Thunderbay, Ontario will be Shelby's first appearance at a National Games in the sport of curling. While Shelby is looking forward to doing his best, and having lots of fun, Shelby is competitive, and would like to see Team PEI come out with some wins.

While most residents from the town of Souris will be cheering Shelby on from home, Shelby's mother, Lois, and his oldest brother, Scott, are planning on traveling to Thunderbay. Lois says that while she is not looking forward to the cold, she is looking forward to meeting new people at the rink, and cheering on Team PEI.
