MISSION STAFF – WOMEN’S SOCCER

PROVINCE: British Columbia

How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

For 8 years.

How is your life different since joining Special Olympics?

It has opened my eyes to the ability Special Olympics has to create opportunities for so many people. I have always loved sport for the opportunity to compete. But being a part of Special Olympics has taught me that sport also fosters so many more things; it is a space where we can come together to work through challenges, achieve goals, push our own boundaries, learn teamwork, have fun and create life-long friendships. I will be forever grateful for the many things I have learned being a part of Special Olympics.

What do you like most about the sport you will be competing in at Special Olympics World Summer Games Berlin 2023?

As mission staff for soccer, I am most excited about the fact that we will be the first all-women's team competing for Special Olympics Team Canada! The women on this team have already exemplified the meaning of team as they have embraced one another from their first meet and continue to stay connected to ensure they build a positive team culture going into the Games. I love that this is a team sport and there will be a lot of game action to watch and cheer on!

What is your proudest moment with Special Olympics?

Being named as a Mission Staff to Special Olympics Team Canada!

What does Special Olympics and attending World Games mean to you?

I have had many people close to me be a part of SO Team Canada. Hearing about their experiences and what they learned along the way, it became a goal of mine to one day have the opportunity to be a part of such an incredible team experience. Knowing that there is confidence in having me on the team to do a job that will help contribute to the overall team success is very humbling but also something that I am proud of. There is nothing better than getting to say you are a part of Special Olympics Team Canada!

What is your goal for Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023?

To ensure the athletes, coaches and fellow team staff have the best possible experience that they can. And to see our all-women's soccer team shine on the world stage!
