Saskatchewan Swimmer Wants to Cheer on Friends at Special Olympics National Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026

“I love to compete and have fun with my friends,” says Special Olympics athlete Lindsay Reimer, "and I get to travel to a lot of different places.”

Lindsay has been swimming with Special Olympics since competing in 2008 Saskatchewan Games in Lloydminster. She practices and trains with the Battlefords Orcas Swim Club and with Special Olympics Battlefords.

Lindsay was proud to be names the 2025 Athlete of the Year by Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation for her dedication to the sport and for the many accomplishments over the years while competing in Special Olympics, the Down Syndrome Games and as a Para Swimmer.

Winning 4 Gold and 1 Silver medal at last years Special Olympic Provincial Games, Lindsay was unsure if she would be selected to Team Saskatchewan, even though she worked hard to qualify for Nationals. Lindsay said she was overjoyed after learning that she will, in fact, be competing in Medicine Hat.

“For Nationals, I am training 4 times a week.” Lindsay said, “I go to the gym once a week and have a workout program I do at home 3 times a week.”

Other than swimming Lindsay likes to participate in Special Olympics boccie, bowling, fitness and likes to keep active biking, fishing, skiing and tubing when she can. She enjoys watching sports on TV especially the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and cheers on the local Junior hockey team.

For over 10 years now Lindsay has been employed at the Discovery Diner where she enjoys working and visiting with the customers.

“My goal for Medicine Hat is to do my best,” she said, “have fun, swim hard, so I can win a medal and cheer on my friends!”
