I Can Games Highlight Special Olympics Saskatchewan Opportunities in Turtleford
The 2026 I Can Games will bring together approximately 200 students from Turtleford and neighbouring schools for a day that celebrates inclusion, ability, and lifelong opportunities through sport.
Turtleford, SK – June 3, 2026 – The 2026 I Can Games will bring together approximately 200 students from Turtleford and neighbouring schools for a day that celebrates inclusion, ability, and lifelong opportunities through sport. The event takes place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Turtleford Community Centre, and is supported by Special Olympics Saskatchewan (SOS).
The I Can Games introduce students to the values and spirit of Special Olympics by providing a welcoming environment where athletes of all abilities can participate, succeed, and build confidence through adapted physical activities. The event serves as an important entry point for students with intellectual disabilities to learn about ongoing sport, health, and leadership opportunities available through Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
The day will begin with Opening Ceremonies and a Parade of Athletes at 10:00 a.m., followed by a series of themed activity stations designed to promote movement, teamwork, and fun. Students will participate alongside peers, educators, and volunteers, earning stamps in their I Can Passports and receiving a medal to recognize their achievements.
Adrien van Dyke from Special Olympics Saskatchewan will be in attendance to support the event and connect with schools and families about opportunities beyond the I Can Games.
“The I Can Games are often the first introduction to Special Olympics for students and families,” said Adrien van Dyke, Special Olympics Saskatchewan. “They show what’s possible when athletes with intellectual disabilities are given inclusive, supportive opportunities to be active, build skills, and be part of their community. From this first experience, athletes can continue into year-round Special Olympics programs that support sport, health, and leadership at every stage of life.”
Special Olympics Saskatchewan offers year-round sport programs, youth and adult opportunities, health initiatives, competitions, and leadership development for individuals with intellectual disabilities across the province. Events like the I Can Games help bridge school experiences with community-based programming, ensuring athletes and families are aware of the supports and opportunities available to them.
School divisions are encouraged to share information about Special Olympics Saskatchewan with families and caregivers to help students continue their participation beyond the school setting.
