A force on the field. A champion for inclusion. George Reed’s legacy lives on.

October 23, 2026

This October, as we mark the anniversary of George Reed’s passing, Special Olympics Saskatchewan (SOS) remembers a cherished friend with deep gratitude. His generosity, commitment to inclusion and belief in our athletes continue to make a difference.

George brought determination and heart to everything he did. A Saskatchewan Roughriders legend, he devoted decades to helping athletes with intellectual disabilities experience the opportunities, recognition and belonging they deserve. Through his volunteerism, advocacy and the George Reed Foundation, he helped build Special Olympics in Saskatchewan and champion a more inclusive province.

Today, Special Olympics Saskatchewan athletes continue to benefit from the legacy George helped create. Established by the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation and George Reed Foundation, the George Reed Legacy Fund carries his commitment forward, with SOS among its beneficiaries. That support helps sustain opportunities for Special Olympics Saskatchewan athletes to participate, compete, build friendships and celebrate their achievements.

We remain deeply thankful to George, his family and everyone continuing his work. His lasting impact lives on—in the athletes he championed and the opportunities his generosity continues to make possible.
