We would like to acknowledge that the land upon which Special Olympics PEI’s programs take place is in Mi'Kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Mi'kmaq People, in this modern district of Epekwitk, who have occupied this Island for over 12,000 years. This territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship". The Treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi'kmaq title and established the rules for an ongoing relationship between nations. We honour that Treaty relationship. We are all Treaty People.
