Meet Special Olympics PEI's newest Athlete Representative on the Board of Directors, Audrey Mitchell
Audrey Mitchell remembers just a few months ago when she wasn't quite sure what the role of Athlete Representative on Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors entailed. Having already had some unique experiences as an Athlete Leader, including being an Athlete Speaker at the Enriching Lives Gala, Audrey was excited to learn more about this potential next opportunity!
Audrey is a dedicated Special Olympics athlete who has proudly represented Team PEI at both regional and national competitions. Through her involvement in sport, Audrey has demonstrated leadership, determination, and a strong commitment to supporting her fellow athletes. She is passionate about ensuring that athlete voices are heard and represented and looks forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of Special Olympics PEI.

Audrey says that her goals within Athlete Leadership as a new member of Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors are to keep going and to introduce more Island athletes to Athlete Leadership.
My goal is to keep going. I want to keep going to the next level of this whole thing, because it's just amazing!
In addition to her new role on Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors, Audrey is also PEI's representative on the Canadian Athlete Leadership Council. Following her first in person meetings in Toronto Audrey says she was excited at having met her counterparts from across the country.
Through her role on the Canadian Athlete Leadership Council Audrey is supported by mentor Ellen Murphy, Special Olympics PEI's Sport Developer. Audrey credits Ellen with being really supportive, and always quick to answer her questions and offer clarification.
At first I was scared because I didn't want to make the wrong decision, and I didn't know how to make decisions. I count on my mentor, Ellen, to help me decide what the best decision is. She is supportive of me, and helped me to understand my options better.
Audrey's parents, Shawn and Megan, have seen a lot of changes and growth in Audrey over the last few years. They say she is a better and more efficient communicator. She has also developed more of a team mentality.
Special Olympics has opened up a whole world of possibilities for us. This is an opportunity for Audrey to share voice in a supportive environment.
