The spring in her step could only mean one thing: a terrific performance during powerlifting for Sudbury’s Josee Seguin. Not only did Seguin come away with an impressive four medals, she did it in style with a personal best in her final dead lift. Seguin lifted 300 lbs or 130 kgs for the gold in dead lift, a gold in bench press, a gold in overall and a silver in squat. To celebrate, Seguin tucked into a Kit Kat chocolate bar she had brought from Canada for just this occasion.

Seguin credits the efforts of coach and trainer Callen McGibbon with her success. “It feels amazing, I am overwhelmed. There are no words to describe what I am feeling.”

The veteran competitor started in the sport eight years ago; recognizing that there were very few females participating at the time.

The competition continues at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.
