Meet Athlete Ambassador, Miley Corey | Empire Family of Brands Fundraising Campaign 2025

At just 11 years old, Miley Corey is already a force on and off the field. Whether she’s racing through obstacle courses, cheering on the younger kids in her program, or playing basketball and soccer with her teammates, Miley brings energy, heart, and encouragement to everything she does.

Since joining Special Olympics Nova Scotia three years ago, Miley has blossomed into a confident, competitive athlete who takes pride in sharing her accomplishments. “She is so proud to tell her friends, many of whom participate in mainstream programs, that she plays basketball, soccer and so many other sports,” says her mom, Alison.

Miley’s athletic spirit—and the inclusive community around her—has inspired more than just her own growth. Her journey has opened the eyes of her parents, Greg and Alison, to what’s possible. “Because of our involvement with Special Olympics, our family has had their eyes opened to the possibility of a great life ahead for children with a disability,” they share. “We’ve met several older athletes who have shown us that our children can grow into independent individuals—not always needing the care of Mom and Dad.”

So moved by the impact of the movement, Greg and Alison became volunteer coaches themselves—giving back to the same community that’s given their family so much hope, pride, and connection.

Special Olympics has also helped the Corey family build healthy habits. Nutrition education resources provided by Special Olympics Canada and Empire Family of Brands have made hydration and balanced eating a household priority—Miley’s favourite healthy snack remains marble cheese and green grapes!

When asked what she’d say to the generous donors supporting athletes like her, Miley didn’t hesitate:

“Thank you—it helps us buy new shirts and equipment!”

For the Coreys, Special Olympics is more than a sports program. It’s a community, a source of inspiration, and a reminder that with the right support, there’s no limit to what Miley—and kids like her—can achieve.
