Meet Athlete Ambassador, Bodhi Howdel | Empire Family of Brands Fundraising Campaign 2025
Bodhi Howdle may only be five years old, but he’s already discovered the power of inclusion, community, and play through Special Olympics.
Full of energy and always on the move, Bodhi’s favourite part of the Special Olympics Active Start program in Saskatoon is simple—running, jumping, and making new friends. But beyond the fun and games, his time in the program has sparked something deeper: confidence, connection, and a true sense of belonging.

“Special Olympics has given Bodhi the opportunity to learn new skills in a calmer environment while being able to make friends,” says his mom, Kristen. “His greatest accomplishment has been getting to participate, learning skills, and building friendships.”
For the Howdle family, Special Olympics has been more than just an activity—it’s been a community that embraces every child for who they are. “Special Olympics feels like home,” Kristen shares. “It’s nice to belong to a community of like-minded people that all want to come together, have fun, and play sports without the added pressure of ‘not being good enough’ or not fitting in.”
And that inclusive mindset means everything to the family. “We love that those in Special Olympics see the ability,” Kristen says. “Those with intellectual disabilities want to be included—they are capable and need to be given the opportunity to belong.”
Thanks to Special Olympics, Bodhi now knows what it feels like to be part of something bigger, where he’s celebrated not just for what he can do, but for who he is.
And when asked what he’d like to say to Empire Family of Brands and the generous customers making it all possible?
Bodhi’s answer says it all:“Thank you for supporting me and my friends!”
