Course description:

This course is about you and how you can protect individuals and vulnerable populations from sexual abuse. Whether you're a board member, staff member, coach, class a volunteer, or you regularly engage with our athletes, we hope you will think creatively about what you learn and make it part of your role in protecting athletes. There is plenty of interactive content in the form of guest interviews from SOI and elsewhere who couldn't wait to join our efforts. Throughout the training, there will be short knowledge checks that allow you to apply and keep this new information you're learning fresh in your mind. Throughout the training you will receive a mix of survivor stories, expert advice, and practical guidance for preventing sexual abuse. You will learn why making choices, taking personal risks, and supporting others are essential skills for protecting athletes. You will also receive simple strategies to prevent and respond to sexual abuse, including how to reduce isolated, one-on-one situations that could create a grooming environment. In fact, can learn how to take the proactive next steps in such a situation by learning from our mandatory reporting and how important a tool it is for us all as we join in this effort together to best safeguard our athletes within the Special Olympics Community. In addition, you will review policies and procedures from Special Olympics' Operation Safeguard and Code of Conduct. Learn about mandatory reporting and its importance in safeguarding athletes within the Special Olympics community.
