How many years have you been involved with Special Olympics?

I have been involved with Special Olympics for 4 years.  

Why did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

Well, you could say Special Olympics is a family affair. My first cousin is Charity Sheehan who is Special Olympics PEI’s Executive Director and Dave Morrow, who is my Uncle, have been involved with Special Olympics PEI for many years. My late wife Idalia used to volunteer for Special Olympics PEI’s Gala each year and since her passing I ended getting involved with the organization coaching basketball with Charity, which started back in 2021 for the Charlottetown program. I have been coaching the Charlottetown program since 2021 and have also coached the PEI team that went to the SONS Provincial Summer Games in Antigonish for the first time ever and we ended up winning the tournament. Having a busy work/home schedule I look forward to seeing the athletes each week while coaching them basketball. It really is the highlight of my week. The athletes always come ready to learn and of course have fun, and they always have a smile that brings me joy to be involved.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games?

I am most looking forward to taking it all in, but mostly seeing the athletes perform on the big stage and representing PEI.

What is your favourite Special Olympics moment?

Haven't experienced one yet so will have to wait and see. I'm sure I will have lots by the time it’s over.

What does being a part of Team PEI 2026 mean to you?

It means the world. PEI is a small Province with some great athletes and to be apart of their development and help represent PEI is beyond words. GOPEI!!
