How many years have you been involved with Special Olympics?

I have been involved with Special Olympics for 24 years.

Why did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

After returning back home to PEI, I wanted to volunteer within an organization where I could make a difference in the community or with people. I also had a deep family connection to Special Olympics PEI and I felt it was the right fit for me personally.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games?

As Mission staff, I'm looking forward to assisting coaches and athletes wherever I can. Being able to assist in a number of sports and assist/cheer at different venues will be exciting.

What is your favourite Special Olympics moment?

Over my 20 plus years with Special Olympics PEI, I many wonderful and exciting moments. My most recent one is from the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 in Calgary, AB where our 5-Pin Bowling team won Silver in their division!!! The pure joy on their faces came with tears, laughs and many group high-fives and hugs. They really showed what sportsmanship was all about. A very proud moment for Coach Dave!

What does being a part of Team PEI 2026 mean to you?

Being part of Team PEI 2026 is truly an honour for me. There are so many desiring coaches and volunteers who can take on this role as Mission staff and I feel blessed that I was selected.
