Front Row: Shayne Hogan (Coach / Caddie), Colton Matheson, Craig Watson (Caddie / Mission Staff)
Team PEI 2026 Golf is lead by 3 enthusiast golf coaches, each of whom is paired with an athletes as a Caddie.
Head Coach, Jamie Matheson, has been volunteering with Special Olympics for 16 years. Similar to many Special Olympics coaches, Jamie got involved because he wanted his son, Colton (Team PEI 2026 Golf athlete) to be involved. Jamie Caddie's for Team PEI 2026 Golf athlete, Heidi Mallett. Jamie has been supporting Heidi on the golf course for over 10 years, and still recalls fondly the first time Golf was offered at a Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in 2014. Both Jamie and Heidi attended those Games, and Heidi earned a Bronze medal.
Heidi Mallett has been a Special Olympics athlete for 19 years. She first joined Special Olympics in 2026 after her father passed away, at the encouragement of her mother.
Shayne Hogan and Matthew Jehn are both relatively new to Special Olympics, compared to the Jamie and Heidi. Both are attending their first Special Olympics Canada Games. Shayne started volunteering 6 years ago and Matthew joined as an athlete 3 years ago. Both Shayne and Matthew are from the Charlottetown Golf program, and have been working together for several years. Matthew says being a part of Team PEI 2026 "makes me feel very proud."
The final golf pairing on Team PEI 2026 are Craig Watson (Caddie / Mission Staff) and Colton Matheson. Craig first became involved with Special Olympics 18 years ago when he was working at the PGA of Canada. In collaboration with Special Olympics Canada, Craig worked on the development of the NCCP coaching modules for Special Olympics Golf in Canada. Colton joined Special Olympics around the same time, 16 years ago. Colton, who is also an avid curler, says he joined Special Olympics because he loves sports.
