Deal-Porter (Staff)

Brettanie is from Whitehorse and has been staff at Special Olympics Yukon for four years. Her fiancé’s family in Ottawa are also involved, his cousin is an athlete and his Aunt is a coach. Brettanie says that Special Olympics has given her the chance to meet and work with an incredible group of athletes, coaches and staff from across Canada. They make her life better. Watching Special Olympics athletes compete in sport reminds her about what is fundamentally great about sport and why it brings so many people together. Brettanie is gratified by how the athletes display pure joy from competing and succeeding, how they build up and support their fellow team mates and competitors along with helping each other when they are down. When one wins, they all win. Brettanie affirms that the way Special Olympics athletes take on new challenges in sport and life is a gold standard we should all strive toward. The athletes inspire her to be better and do better, every day. For her first World Games, Brettanie wants to ensure Team Canada has the best experience possible and something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
