Special Olympics Team Canada Powerlifters are on fire at the 2019 World Games in Abu Dhabi.

Josée Seguin started the trend on Saturday, earning a gold medal overall, a silver in squat, and golds in bench press and deadlift.

Paul Perreault, a twenty-year veteran from Timmins, followed on Sunday and did not disappoint.

He dominated the squat, bench press and deadlift, bringing home gold medals in all three, as well as a gold medal overall.

Andre Goulet, who trains at the same Timmins club as Perreault, took the stage on Tuesday and also took home four gold medals.

When asked how they feel, they all replied with the same answer: "sore."

Powerlifting head coach Ross MacIntosh said he’s “exhausted, but exhilarated” by the gold medals so far.

“(My secret is) I let their training coaches train them and I take the advice from them,” said MacIntosh. “I don’t change anything.”

Once the team gets to Games, MacIntosh’s job is to “keep them happy, get them focused and make them lift.”

“These guys are professionals,” he said, giving all the credit to the athletes.

The Special Olympics World Games continue in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with the remaining SO Team Canada Powerlifters, Christine Sullivan and Michael Bandler, competing on Wednesday.

The World Games officially come to a close on Thursday.
